No no Moroboshi Sena I'm the one who's excited for the day when you two race together. Really wholesome stuff with Kanata spending time with Ren's family. Was great to see the four of them enjoy their time together. Some old faces appeared too. So Iketani's still single, didn't he have a love interest but some misunderstanding happened? So it didn't work out for them after all. The upgraded 86 is also here. Felt like a season finale tbh but still 3 episodes to go so more cliffhanger for sure.

Ren's family is very lucky to have hot nineteen years old guy joining the family, and he's a top-notch racer too! I wouldn't just allow him to stay at my house, I'd ask him to stay there forever.

Really nice seeing Kanata spending time with Ren's family it was really sweet seeing them have a lovely meal out together. Poor Iketani still single I guess he will Always be a lonely driver.

Nice episode overall since it was a unwinding one. We got enough info on 86's upgrade, meeting the next big rival plus some social bonding before we get to the next race.

I don’t know why I’m bothered by it, or the only one bothered by it, but I wish they would’ve cast an actual half English-half Japanese actor with a British accent as Kanata because for whatever reason, Japan seems to think that anyone born outside of Japan speaks English with a Japanese accent

@ajw215799 Well, everyone in the US also seems to think they do or they have an American accent. Which doesn't make sense, only a couple of shows broke this Mold. Hellsing Ultimate desrves major kudos for the dub getting the accents right. Brits had BRITISH accents & germans had GERMAN accents or spoke straight up Deutchse! LOL. Noir tries but gets lazy. I think I actually heard some italian accenting in Gunslinger Girl also. But man, people are so lazy when they make exotic locations & then everyone either speaks Japanese or American english. LOL

Ren is so pretty I just wish she wasn’t such a Kanata simp lol, respect to her for wanting to help Kanata connect with his family though. The dad really fell off the face of the earth. In a sense, he did find family today with him calling Ren’s dad papa ❤️

They say it can be done with the skills of kanata but the Sena isn't just another driver..
Sena is probably named after the legendary F1 champ.
Also supra is my favorite car but the yellow color looks dull, I prefer it orange.
Also you're right for a racing anime this has the feel of slice of life anime with all the beautiful shinto shrines and Buddhist temples , rainy backgrounds and cozy dinner. I thought it would be a apocalyptic world because it's set after the of the mount fuji eruption
I like the rainy settings and the background art makes fantastic wallpaper of choice for me.

@RainyEvenings the supra being yellow might be an influence from keisuke his mentor since his mazda rx7 is also colored yellow and i agree the background arts are good

We see the arrival of Moroboshi Sena, the protege of Takahashi Keisuke to join in round three of MFG. Looks like the rivalry between Kanata and Sena carries the old rivalry of Fujiwara and Takahashi. Meanwhile the search for Kanata's dad continues.

Sena is very humble but I think he is a monster behind the wheel, like not in a good way. And 86 will go stututu now lets gooo, I also love the reference to initial D with the carbon fiber hood as well.

Overall, this was a pretty chill episode. Kanata and Ren heading out together once again is always nice to watch, especially when they shared their own experiences with their grandparents/parents having a car breakdown. I do feel sorry for Kanata's grandfather for having to sell his vintage Jaguar Mk2 because Kanata's mother was angry at how unreliable it was. =(
On another note, it was a nice nostalgic feeling in seeing Itsuki, Kenji and Iketani once again at the familiar petrol (Now looks to be an EV) station. Itsuki and Kenji being married is surprising, but Iketani not only being single, but also balding was another surprise. Poor guy still can't catch a break, huh...
Seeing Kanata's Toyota 86 flying after getting the turbo upgrade was fun, as was listening to the turbo whistles and flutters as Kanata floored it, with Ogata panicking in the passenger seat. I look forward to seeing how Kanata will perform in the next race with these upgrades. Hopefully the result will be worth it.

I think they try to keep the same vibe that initial d had in which we saw not only racing but the life of fujiwara so the topic of the anime having the genre slice of life is not so weird I believe

I really like that suggestion to outright change the car from a Toyota GT86 to a GR Supra, it's almost better for every day except that it's burlier, heavier and isn't as nimble as the GT86, something which can be somewhat tuned and handled with training. Unfortunately, of course, Kanata doesn't want it. So as if the Universe is listening, here comes Keisuke's personal disciple with his flashy yellow GR Supra stopping by to announce his presence and pay respects.
Yeah, if he's sticking with the GT86, he NEEDS that TURBOCHARGER! Seems like Kanata is willing to compromise the Naturally Aspirated nature of his GT86 with a substantial forced induction mechanic. The jump from the GT86's sub-200HP figure to around 300HP is pretty huge, though not the full extent of what turbocharging can do. No major turbo-lag and potential for knocking on the 86's boxer engine, that's good. The new carbon bonnet and titanium exhaust tips are awesome as well!
Aside from the visual change, you can hear a very distinct turbo whistle as it spools up, followed by a very faint blow-off valve. The GT86 has been powered up!
I wonder if we'll ever see Kanata taking what Takumi did with his AE86. Replacing the stock block and changing it with a custom forged race-engine. Doing that and THEN putting on a bigger turbo or even twin turbo would make the GT86 a proper beast on the race!

lol itsuki and iketani still at the gas electric station. i dont know how to feel seeing they haven't changed much. happy that itsuki got married though. lol @ iketani's receeding hairline. i liked how the author put thatscene as a little fan-service for the people coming from initial-d. everything about the whole interaction was straight up nostalgia. they gotta be in their 40s now for sure.
